Adoption...
BRC's goal is to find permanent stable "forever homes" for the
basset hounds in our care. We do not take this lightly. We aim to make the
basset happy over their lifetime. To you, our procedures may seem drawn out; our rules
too strict. However, these rules and procedures have proven over time to be reliable
predictors of your commitment to a new basset.
Please think long and hard before
applying to adopt one of our bassets. Read up on the breed; bassets are not suitable for
every household.
Our minimum expectations of you:
- BRC bassets are to be kept indoors and treated as family members
- Veterinary care and treatment (including annual vaccinations) MUST be provided
- An current ID tag must be worn by all adopted bassets
- You are not to sell or give this dog away. If you can no longer care for the basset, must return him or her to BRC care.
- You will notify us of any address and/or telephone changes.
- You will comply with all state and local ordinances regarding pet ownership.
Anyone not able to keep their adopted basset or provide him or her adequate care MUST contact BRC immediately to return the basset!
What to Expect?
Questions. Lots of questions. We want to know about you and the life that you can provide for one of our bassets.
- Step 1- The first step is to fill out an adoption application. Be as thorough
and accurate as possible so that we can start thinking of which bassets might make a good
match for you.
- Step 2- The second step is a phone interview. During the phone interview, we
will talk to you about basset hounds in general and try to ascertain whether your
expectations for a basset are reasonable. We will also schedule a home visit.
- Step 3- Home visits provide you a chance to show us where you anticipate the basset will live and how you plan to accomodate having a basset as a friend. We are not looking at your housekeeping skills. Dusting and vacuuming are not a requirement!
Adoption Donations
Anyone who is approved to adopt a BRC basset hound is required to make an adoption donation. This donation helps to defray the cost of caring for your new basset while in our custody. Please remember, the donation does not generally EVER cover the full cost of care. However, your adoption donation is tax-deductible.
- Puppies - 2 years of age: $300.00
- 3 - 5 years of age: $200.00
